- There is a 16-bit, and a 32-bit version of WaVGeT.
- The 16-bit will work on Windows 3.x. Use the 32-bit version for Windows95 or
- Windows NT.
-
- WaVGeT works with mIRC 3.92, 4.XX, and 5.xx!
- And...in mIRC 4.7 and up you can use COLOR in all your messages!
- See 2.5.7 How do I use color in mIRC 4.7 and up?
-
- First of all, I want to thank everybody who has contributed to WaVGeT in
- one way or another. The list of people is too long to mention everybody,
- but you made WaVGeT what it is today...THANKS!
-
- This copy of WaVGeT is shareware, you can share it with your friends.
- If you like it, please register your copy because that's how the
- shareware system works. Check out section 1.1.4 How do I register
- WaVGeT and why? or the registration page at the top of this document.
-
- If it's your first time installing WaVGeT, make sure you use the
- self extracting version that includes all the required dll files.
- The filename is wavget32v17i.exe for the 32 bit version.
- Visit http://www.wavget.com/download.html for more information on
- how to install the 16-bit version of WaVGeT for the first time.
-
- I hope you like it, but if you don't, or if you have some suggestions,
- I would like to hear about it. You can email me at support@wavget.com
-
- I know there are a lot of other sound program out there that do a lot of
- the same things that WaVGeT does. However, WaVGeT is the ONLY program
- that does it ALL and has an extensive support system. You can get
- friendly support by emailing me, posting a message on the WaVGeT message
- board, or visiting one of the many support IRC channels listed on the
- WaVGeT home page. (See the URLs at the beginning of this document)

-
- 1.0 Getting started
-
- 1.1 Installing WaVGeT
-
- 1.1.1 What do I do with old versions of WaVGeT?
- New versions always have more functionalities and bug fixes, so
- it does not make sense to keep those old versions around. Also,
- older versions might not work properly with the configuration
- setting of a newer one.
- WARNING! Make sure you save the wavget.cat, wavget.lst, and
- wavget.msg files when you upgrade to a new version of WaVGeT!
- These files contain your catalog information and your play
- messages. The easiest way to upgrade is to simply unzip the
- new version into the same directory as the old one. If you're
- unsure, make a backup! :)
-
- 1.1.2 Where do I put it?
- You can put WaVGeT anywhere you want. A good place might be in a
- sub directory of mIRC, like C:\MIRC\WAVGET or in the directory
- the self extracting full install suggests, c:\program files\wavget.
-
- 1.1.3 What's new in this version?
- * Increased the speed of refreshing the All Files list by
- about 15 times! This should greatly improve performance for
- people with a lot of files.
- * WaVGeT now displays the duration of a MP3 file! This also
- means that 'add file play time' works for random playing MP3
- files. You can set the random play time to 5 seconds, and
- check the 'add play time' box to continiously play!
- * No more <RIFF WAV> display for MP3 files that use the RIFF
- file format. WaVGeT will now display the correct file
- information for all MP3 files.
- * Added the Preview option to the Color Play Message Editor
- window. It will provide you a color real time view of the
- message that you are editing.
- * Added the Vertical window layout. It was designed to handle
- the long filenames of MP3 files better. Just check the
- 'Vertical layout' box in Setup-Options to see what it's like.
- * You can now select from 4 different methods to request a
- file, !nick filename, @nick filename, nick filename, and
- /ctcp nick get filename. You can select the method you want
- to use by right clicking on an item in the get list and select
- the Get Method menu option.
- * You can now choose from three different methods to play a
- file to the channel, /ctcp sound filename, /ctcp mp3 filename,
- or @mp3 filename. You can change this in the 'Play-Select play
- method' menu option.
- * Combined 'Send File Info' and 'Send Wav Info' into 'Send File
- Information' in Setup-Options.
- * Improved the randomness of Random Play.
- * You can now use a play message variable (like $filename) more
- than once in a message.
- * Added 'Visit www.wavget.com', 'Configuration Support', and
- 'How to register' to the Help menu. They start your browser and
- go to the appropriate page on the wavget site.
- * Changed the color and output format of the @find server. If
- you use AutoConfig to reconfigure mIRC, the @find results will
- now be directed to a seperate popup window.
- * Added the @locator server. It responds to @locator requests
- in the channel.
- * Verify Catalogs now skips Trash! catalog.
- * Added more extensive support for filenames with spaces.
- * Fixed a resizing problem that caused a 380 run time error.
- * Made list resizing much smoother.
- * Fixed a problem with loading and saving ThankYou messages.
-
- 1.1.4 How do I register WaVGeT and why?
- You can register your copy of WaVGeT by sending $10 (check or
- money order) and your EMAIL ADDRESS to:
-
- Paul P.M. Beuger
- P.O. Box 866
- Brunswick, OH 44212
- U.S.A
-
- The state of the art way to register WavGeT is using DigiBuy.
- Just put WaVGeT in your shopping cart, pay online using their
- secure server, and you're done! For an additional fee, you can
- even FAX your order.
-
- You can now also register WaVGeT on-line with First Virtual
- using your Visa or Mastercard. Don't worry, you won't have to
- send your credit card number over the internet. Curious? Visit
- the WaVGeT page and click the Register button or check out
- First Virtual at http://www.fv.com.
-
- Visit http://www.wavget.com/register.html for more info on how
- to register your copy of WaVGeT.
-
- I will email you a registration code that you can enter into
- the HELP-REGISTER menu. This will change the ! in the play
- message to a registered symbol (wow!:) and will entitle you to
- automatic free updates via email. This will also make you part
- of the WaVGeT 'development team', because your input will be
- used to determine future new functionality of WaVGeT! Oh,
- before I forget, it will get you on the WaVGeT mailing list!
-
- Why should you send me $10 ? Well, Your contributions will keep
- me going and pay for some of stuff I have bought that made WaVGeT
- what it is today.
- WaVGeT is continually upgraded to keep up with your requests,
- faster than ANY other program that I am aware of! I realize that
- there are a lot of people that can not or will not pay for
- WaVGeT and use it anyway. All I ask is, that if you like
- WaVGeT and have the money...support your friendly programmer!
-
- To people outside the U.S.A., I realize it's not cheap to send
- me $10US from a foreign country because of the exchange fees
- and check costs. I strongly suggest you use DigiBuy because
- it's the easiest way and you'll get a good exchange rate.
-
- 1.2 Setting your Sound directory
- Next thing you have to do is tell WaVGeT where you keep your sound
- files. The first time you run WaVGeT, the SETUP window will appear
- automatically for you to configure WaVGeT.
-
- 1.2.1 Does it matter where I keep my sound files?
- Not really. Just make sure you select the directory you want in
- the WaVGeT SETUP window. Simply choose the right drive and
- directory until your sound files show up in the file listing.
-
- 1.2.2 Can I have several different WaV directories?
- Sure! With WaVGeT, you can have several sound directories. Many
- people have one for 'good old' WaVs and another one for freshly
- downloaded ones. You can simply switch directories in the All
- Files catalog, or set the default (base) directory in Setup.
- You can even put your directories on multiple drives, simply
- add the paths to the Search Path list in Setup.
-
- 1.2.3 WAV and MIDI sound files support
- mIRC 4.7 and up handles MIDI files in the /SOUND command, so
- all this is no longer needed.
- If you are using mIRC 4.7 or earlier....
- WaVGeT now supports WAV and MID (MIDI) file formats. First,
- select the *.wav;*.mid file type in setup, so your midi files
- show up in the All Files list. You can double click on a midi
- file to play it locally, or select it and press the play to
- mIRC (speaker) button. It gets better after you add this to
- your remote commands section: (only tested in mIRC 4.6)
- 1:midi:/write $mircdir $+ wavget.log $nick $nopath($parm2)
- When somebody else plays a midi file, and you have it, WaVGeT
- will play it for you! (no other program needed!) If you don't
- have the file, WaVGeT adds it to the GET list so you can
- request it. Can it get :) any easier?
-
- 1.3 Configuring mIRC
-
- 1.3.1 What version of mIRC should I use?
- WaVGeT will work with mIRC 3.92 to 5.xx, however, there are
- some different functions available with each version.
- 3.92 does not support the SOUND command, so it will only log WaV
- files that are requested by other people.
- 4.0 does support the SOUND command, but it has a bug with playing
- sounds. WaVGeT automatically compensates for mIRC 4.0.
- 5.xx supports the SOUND command, and supports colors and more,
- so this is the version I recommend.
-
- 1.3.2 How do I use the 'auto configure mIRC' option?
- Just run mIRC and click on the Help-Configure mIRC menu option in
- WaVGeT, it will take care of everything.
-
- 1.3.3 I don't want to use 'auto configure mIRC', what do I do?
- Use the auto configure mIRC anyway and unload the wgremote.ini
- file manually. Then look at the wgremote.ini file and copy
- only the lines you want. All the lines are documented, but you
- are on you own on what to do with them.
-
- 1.3.4 Will WaVGeT work with other WaV programs?
- Absolutely! One thing to watch out for is that these 'other'
- programs might also use the SOUND command. After you use the auto
- setup in WaVGeT, manually edit the REMOTE COMMANDS section to add
- the other program's line to the end of the WaVGeT line:
- 1:sound:/write $mircdir $+ wavget.log $nick $parm2 | other commands
- (Note: the | is a SHIFT-\)
- Also, when you install another program AFTER WaVGeT (I
- wouldn't know why *grin*) you might have to do the same.
- Also, if you used WaveOut, read 2.5.5 How do I convert WaveOut
- messages to WaVGeT messages?
-
- 1.3.5 Configuring mIRC for use with multiple WaV directories
- This used to be a very long explanation of some really
- complicated remote event lines...but... WaVGeT now handles
- DCC SEND requests! Simply add this to your remote events section:
- on 1:text:!*:*:/if ( $parm1 == ! $+ $me ) { /nickcount $nick | /write $mirdir $+ wavget.log :send $nick $nopath($parm2) ? $send(0) %nicks }
- Add This to your Alias section:
- /NickCount {
- %sends = $send(0)
- %nicks = 0
- %nick = $1
- :FCLoop
- %ps = $send( %sends )
- If ( %nick isin %ps ) %nicks = %nicks + 1
- %sends = %sends - 1
- If %sends > 0 goto FCLoop
- }
- An easier way is to load the WGREMOTE.INI file using the Help-
- Configure mIRC-For Everything menu option in WaVGeT.
- When another user requests one of your WaVs with !nick
- filename.wav, WaVGeT will search the subdirectories of the WaV
- directory and automagically send it. If WaVGeT can't find the
- file, the user will get a /notice that you don't have the
- file. Use the HELP - CONFIGURE MIRC menu option to enter these
- setup strings automatically.
-
- 1.3.6 How do I make an alias to start WaVGeT from mIRC?
- Add the following line to your alias section:
- /wavget /run WaVGeTDir\wavget16.exe *1 (or wavget32.exe)
- Replace WaVGeTDir with whatever directory you put WaVGeT in,
- for example /wavget /run c:\mirc\wavget\wavget32.exe *1.
- Then you can type /wavget in any window to start WaVGeT.
-
- 1.3.7 How do I configure mIRC so other people can get my WaVs?
- Add this to your REMOTE EVENTS, and check to LISTENING box:
- 1:on text:!nick*:#:/dcc send $nick c:\wavdir\ $+ $parm2
- Change nick to your nickname, and wavdir to the directory
- where you keep your WaV files, for example:
- 1:on text:!Dutch2*:#:/dcc send $nick c:\mirc\wav\ $+ $parm2
- If you have multiple WaV directories, make sure you read
- 1.3.5 Configuring mIRC for use with multiple WaV directories.
- Use the HELP - CONFIGURE MIRC menu option to enter this setup
- string automatically.
- Also, if you want to be able to accept WaV requests in a query
- window, change the # to a *, for example:
- 1:on text:!Dutch2*:*:/dcc send $nick c:\mirc\wav\ $+ $parm2
-
- 1.3.8 How do I configure mIRC popup menus for WaVGeT?
- Add these lines to tools-popups-main window in mIRC:
- (WaVGeT16 users, change all wavget32's to wavget16)
-
- Random play
- .On:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :random on
- .Off:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :random off
- .Interval:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :random time $$?="Enter random play interval:"
- .Use catalog:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :random catalog
- .Use All Files:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :random allfiles
- Auto Get
- .On:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :autoget on
- .Off:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :autoget off
- Catalog
- .New Files:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :catalog new files
- .All Files:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :catalog all files
- .CatName:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :catalog CatName
- PlaySounds
- .On:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :playsounds on
- .Off:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 :playsounds off
- -
-
- Don't forget the last - :) Then RIGHT click IN A CHANNEL
- WINDOW. A menu will pop up, enabling you to control random
- play, AutoGet, and catalog settings of WaVGeT. You can add
- more catalog names to this popup menu by copying the CatName
- line and changing it to one of your catalogs, like:
- .Music wavs:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 : $+ catalog Music wavs
- .Funny Sounds:/dde wavget32 form1 text1 : $+ catalog Funny Sounds
- Make sure you spell the catalog names correctly!
-
- 1.3.9 Example mIRC remote sections.
- The best example is the wgremote.ini file generated by WaVGeT.
- Just click the help-configure mirc menu option. This will create
- and load the wgremote.ini file. You can view it in the remotes
- section of mIRC.
-
- 1.3.10 How do I configure mIRC & WaVGeT to run multiple copies?
- This function enables you to run two (or more) copies of mIRC and
- WaVGeT so you can play & get WaVs on two different IRCs. For
- example, you could be on DalNet #wavs'r'us with one mIRC/WaVGeT
- and on #!wavs_n_more on AnotherNet with another mIRC/WaVGeT combo.
- You *MUST* have the copies of mIRC installed in different
- directories! For example, c:\mirc1 and c:\mirc2. Also, make sure
- you have the *1 at the end of your WaVGeT alias line (see 1.3.6).
- Start both copies of mIRC, then go to the file-options-server
- section to change the DDE service name. In the first copy of mIRC,
- change it to MIRC1, in the second copy change it to MIRC2. Then
- make sure Enable Dde Server is checked in both mIRCs. Click ok to
- close the Dde Server window and type /wavget mirc1 in the first
- copy of mIRC and /wavget mirc2 in the second copy of mIRC.
- *WARNING #1* If you want the catalog information to be different
- you ALSO need to make a 2nd WaVGeT directorie and copy the wavget
- exe, lst, msg, and cat files to it.
- *WARNING #2* Only the settings of the WaVGeT you close down *LAST*
- are saved.
- Have fun. Any comments or suggestions on this function are welcome!
-
- 1.4 Starting WaVGeT
- The first time you run WaVGeT, you will have to it from File Manager,
- after you use the SETUP option, you will have several ways.
-
- 1.4.1 Making sure mIRC is ready
- Type /ddeserver on in mIRC 3.92, or Check FILE - OPTIONS - SERVERS
- - ENABLE DDE SERVER in mIRC 4.0 and up.
-
- 1.4.2 Starting WaVGeT from File Manager (or Explorer)
- What can I say, find the directory you put the wavget exe file in
- and double click on it.
-
- 1.4.3 Starting WaVGeT from Program Manager
- When you installed WaVGeT for the first time, it asked you if you
- wanted it to add an icon to Program Manager, if you said yes,
- WaVGeT created a group called WaVGeT with an icon in it. Resize
- the group to what you want, and double click on the icon.
-
- 1.4.4 Starting WaVGeT from mIRC
- After you use CONFIGURE mIRC, you can start WaVGeT by typing
- /wavget in any mIRC window.
-
- 2.0 Using WaVGeT
-
- 2.1 Playing a sound
- After you configured WaVGeT, your WaV files will be listed in the
- right file list.
-
- 2.1.1 How do I play a sound to a channel?
- Select a WaV by clicking on it in the file list. WaVGeT will show
- the file's name and size in the information box.
- If the sound file is corrupt (0 bytes) WaVGeT will ask you if you
- want to delete the bad WaV. After you select a good WaV, you can
- play it to the active channel by clicking the SEND SOUND (speaker)
- button. NOTE: If QuickShot is enabled, pressing the speaker
- button will play the selected file LOCALLY, not on the
- channel. (See 2.1.3 What is QuickShot?)
-
- 2.1.2 How do I play a sound locally?
- Double click on a WaV in the file list. WaVGeT will play the WaV
- on your computer only. If the WaV file is bad, WaVGeT will ask
- you if you want to delete it. NOTE: If QuickShot is enabled,
- double clicking a WaV will send it to the active channel. (See
- 2.1.3 What is QuickShot?)
-
- 2.1.3 What is QuickShot?
- QuickShot swaps the functions of double clicking on a WaV and
- the Send Sound (speaker) button. See 2.1.1 and 2.1.2.
-
- 2.1.4 How do I stop a playing sound?
- Simply RIGHT click the CLEAR LIST button (left button). This
- will stop any playing sound.
-
- 2.1.5 How do I select the Play method?
- Click on the Play menu and select the 'Select Play Method'
- option. Then just select the play method you want.
-
- 2.2 Random play
- WaVGeT will let you random play sounds to a channel you can select!
- This means you can random play in #WaVGeT, and talk in a query window
- with your friend, and WaVGeT will play to #WaVGeT!
-
- 2.2.1 How do I turn random play on and off?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) click on the RANDOM PLAY checkbox
- or hit the 'clock' button. (2nd button from left in the WaVGeT
- window)
-
- 2.2.2 How do I set the random play interval time?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) change the interval time by clicking
- on the arrows under the random interval value box. You can set
- this between 5 and 600 seconds. Please be nice, don't spam :)
- You can also change this time by RIGHT clicking the random
- play on/off button in the WaVGeT window. This will display a
- slider that enables you to change the interval time.
-
- 2.2.3 How do I include the WaV file name and size?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) click on the SEND FILE INFO checkbox.
- If this box is checked, WaVGeT will add [filename.wav xxKB] to
- the play message. This is very nice for other people that are on
- a slow link and might not want to dcc that 800KB file you have.
-
- 2.2.4 How do I set random play messages?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) select the PLAY MESSAGE list by
- clicking on it. You can add your own by clicking on the ADD
- button. Also see 2.5.7 How do I use color in mIRC 4.7 and up?
- You can also use the $filename parameter to include the file's
- name in the message.
-
- 2.2.5 How do I let WaVGeT pick the play message?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) check the PLAY MESSAGE - RANDOM
- checkbox. When this box is checked, WaVGeT will randomly pick a
- message from the list every time you play a WaV that DOES NOT
- HAVE ITS OWN message defined.
-
- 2.2.6 How do I turn play messages off?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) check the PLAY MESSAGE - NONE
- checkbox. When this box is checked, WaVGeT will not display any
- message when you play a WaV that DOES NOT HAVE ITS OWN message
- defined.
-
- 2.2.7 How do I set a message for a specific WaV?
- First select a WaV in the file list. Then type in the message you
- want in the play message box at the bottom of the WaVGeT window.
- Right click on the Color Button to use the FunScript or Random
- Color options.
- Also see 2.5.7 How do I use color in mIRC 4.7 and up?
- Also try this as a Play Message: Playing wavs with $opnick(0,#)
- OPs and $nopnick(0,#) nonOPs in $chan at $rtime EST on $adate for
- the last $duration($online) Yes! you can use mIRC variables in
- WaVGeT play messages!
- You can also use the $filename parameter to include the file's
- name in the message.
-
- 2.2.8 How do I specify what WaV directory to use?
- Select the directory you want in the WaVGeT SETUP window. Simply
- choose the right drive and directory until your WaV files show
- up in the file listing. You can change the WaV directory whenever
- you want.
-
- 2.2.9 How do I select what channel(s) I play to?
- ONLY IN WAVGET you can select channels to random play to! This
- means that you can talk in a query window with your friend, and
- random play to other channels at the same time! (You can still play
- a sound to your current window with the SEND SOUND button)
- Simply select the channels from the PLAY menu. You can select
- CURRENT CHANNEL, so the random play follows you around to
- wherever you are, or any number of channels from the list in the
- menu.
-
- 2.2.10 How do I include the catalog name?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) click on the SEND CATALOG NAME
- checkbox. If this box is checked, WaVGeT will add [CatName] to
- the play message. This kinda gives other people an idea what
- this WaV is all about.
-
- 2.2.11 How do I include the [50KB 4.6Sec 8bit Mono 11.0KHz] stuff?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) click on the SEND WAV INFO
- checkbox. If this box is checked, WaVGeT will add all that to
- the play message. This kinda gives other people an idea what
- this WaV is all about.
- If the file is an MP3, WaVGeT will display the file's sample
- rate and bitrate like [1,082KB 44kHz 128kbit/s]
-
- 2.2.12 What is this SEND DIRECTORY NAME checkbox?
- If this box is not checked, you can only play WaVs from the
- SOUND DIRECTORY specified in mIRC setup. If this box is checked,
- you can change WaV directories on the fly in WaVGeT and play on.
-
- 2.2.13 What is this ADD WAV PLAY TIME checkbox?
- What would happen if you random play a WaV that is 45 seconds
- long and your random interval is set to 30 seconds? Well, 30
- seconds after the 1st WaV starts playing, it will be cut off
- by the following random WaV! But, when you check the ADD WAV
- PLAY TIME box, WaVGeT will FIRST wait for the WaV to finish
- playing, and then start the count-down for the next WaV. In
- other words, the random interval value is the time from the
- END of the first WaV to the START of the next one. Very nice
- for those people that have those 3.5MB 90 second WaV files!
- This feature was added by special request.
-
- 2.2.14 WaVGeT tried to random play a bad WaV, how do I delete it?
- Well, that's an easy one. Just select the WaV list box in the
- WaVGeT window (just click on any WaV name) and hit the
- BACKSPACE key. You will be asked if you want to delete the
- last played WaV by name. Hit yes, and the file is history!
-
- 2.2.15 How do I random play from a catalog?
- Check the Use Active Catalog box in setup. Random play will
- then pick a WaV from whatever catalog you have selected at the
- time of the random play. If this box is not checked, WaVGeT
- uses the All Files catalog.
-
- 2.2.16 How do I random play from multiple selected catalogs?
- This is another advanced function in WaVGeT. Check the Use
- Selected Catalogs box in Setup and select what catalogs you
- want to random play from in Setup-Catalogs. Random play will
- then pick WaVs only from the selected catalogs.
-
- 2.3 Getting WaV files
- WaVGeT was the first...and many followed...still the best!
- Click-n-get your WaVs the easy way with WaVGeT!
-
- 2.3.1 How do I configure mIRC for click-n-get?
- Use HELP - CONFIGURE mIRC (do this only once) to configure mIRC
- for auto get. See 1.3.2 How do I use the 'auto configure mIRC'
- option?
-
- 2.3.2 How do I get WaV files?
- Well, we made it as easy as it gets *grin* Simple double click on
- an item in the left input list. This will find the person who
- 'owns' the WaV you want, and type !nick filename.wav to that
- channel. You will get an error message if the person is no longer
- on any channel, asking if you want to try anyway.
-
- 2.3.3 How do I set the get message?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) select the GET MESSAGE list by
- clicking on it. You can add your own by clicking on the ADD
- button. Also see 2.5.7 How do I use color in mIRC 4.7 and up?
- You can also use the $filename and $nick parameters to include
- the file's name or Nick of the person who played the file in the
- message.
-
- 2.3.4 How do I let WaVGeT pick the get message?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) check the GET MESSAGE - RANDOM
- checkbox. When this box is checked, WaVGeT will randomly pick a
- message from the list every time you get a WaV.
-
- 2.3.5 How do I turn get messages off?
- In the SETUP window (CTRL-S) check the GET MESSAGE - NONE
- checkbox. When this box is checked, WaVGeT will not display any
- message when you get a WaV. Some times when you get a lot of WaVs,
- it's nicer to other people to turn the get message off.
-
- 2.3.6 What is this INPUT RATE menu option?
- The communication between mIRC and WaVGeT is done by a log file.
- mIRC writes to this file, and WaVGeT reads it at a set interval.
- The default interval is 5 seconds. On some slower computers,
- (386/33) you might want to try 10 seconds here.
-
- 2.3.7 How do I clear the get list?
- Sometimes people play soooo many WaV files that the input list
- gets really full. After you picked the ones you want, you can
- select FILE - CLEAR LIST or press CTRL-E to clear the list.
- If you just want to delete one, simply click on it once, and
- then press the DEL key, or hit the RIGHT mouse button.
-
- 2.3.8 How do I use AutoGet?
- When this function is enabled, WaVGeT will keep track of how
- many DCC GET sessions are going on in mIRC. When there are less
- active sessions than specified in AutoGet setup, WaVGeT will
- select a random entry from the input list and request the WaV.
- WaVGeT only checks every 30 seconds for the number of active
- sessions to prevent spamming. One warning, when you are badly
- lagged, the requested file might not be active by the time
- WaVGeT checks for DCC sessions and WaVGeT will request another
- WaV. As with all 'automagic' functions, keep an eye on it :)
- You can turn AutoGet on and off in the Setup window, or by
- right clicking the setup button in the main WaVGeT window.
-
- 2.3.9 A DCC GET timed out...how do I use Get Again?
- Yes, that happens all the time...your DCC GET timed out, and
- now you have an incomplete file! Only WaVGeT helps you out
- with Get Again!
- If you have AutoGetAgain turned on in the Get section of
- WaVGeT's setup, this one is a no brainer...it's automagic!
- Else simply click on the WaV in the NEW FILES catalog and
- press the Get Again button! This will request the WaV again,
- causing the DCC session to resume. This Get Again information
- is not saved when you exit WaVGeT, so it only works if you keep
- WaVGeT running.
-
- 2.3.10 I don't like WaVGeT sorting the input list, can I turn it off?
- Simply check the 'Don't sort input list' box in Setup. WaVGeT
- will simply insert the last played WaV at the top of the list.
-
- 2.3.11 How do I send a Thank You message after I receive the file?
- In Setup-Thanks you can define the messages that are sent
- after you successfully receive a file. Make sure
- you have the ON FILERCVD line in your mIRC remote section.
-
- 2.3.12 How do I automatically play the sound after I receive it?
- Check the AutoPlay box in the Setup-Thanks section. Make sure
- you have the ON FILERCVD line in your mIRC remote section.
-
- 2.3.13 How do I move a file in the GET list directly to the Trash! ?
- Just right click on the item and select Move to Trash! For
- information on how to make a Trash! catalog see 2.4.8 What is
- this Trash! catalog?
-
- 2.3.14 How do I use AutoGetAgain?
- Add this line your mIRC remote section:
- on 1:getfail:*.wav,*.mid,*.mp3:/write $mircdir $+ wavget.log :fail $nick $nopath($filename)
- Make sure it's all on one line, and don't change a thing. Then
- check the 'Automatically re-get failed transfers' in WaVGeT's
- Setup-Get section. AutoGetAgain will automatically request the
- file again if a DCC get times out.
-
- 2.3.15 How do I save the contents of the GET list?
- You can save the contents of the GET list for the next time
- you run WaVGeT by checking the box in the GET section of
- WaVGeT's section.
-
- 2.3.16 How do I select the GET method?
- Click on an item in the GET list and then click the rigth
- mouse button. Then choose the 'Select GET Method' option and
- select the method you want. WaVGeT will automatically update
- the GET list to the new GET method.
-
- 2.4 Organizing your WaVs
- Now you have all those WaV files...now what?...this is where most
- other WaV programs stop...and WaVGeT continues...
-
- 2.4.1 How do I check for WaV files that don't work?
- Every time you select a file, WaVGeT checks to see if it's ok and
- asks if you want to delete it if it is not. You can also check
- the files in a catalog, or just all files, by selecting the
- catalog and clicking the FILE-CHECK WAV FILES menu option.
-
- 2.4.2 How do I delete a WaV file?
- Select a WaV file from the list, and hit the DEL key. WaVGeT will
- ask you if you want to delete the file. You can use ctrl-click
- or shift-click to select multiple files, and then hit delete.
- WaVGeT will ask you if you want to delete the WaV for each
- file.
-
- 2.4.3 How do I rename a WaV file?
- Select the WaV file from the list, and hit the INS key. WaVGeT
- will ask you for the new name of the file. (All Files catalog
- only)
-
- 2.4.4 How do I know how many WaVs I have?
- Select the FILE - UPDATE DIRECTORY menu option. This will refresh
- the WaV file list and display how many WaVs you have. The refresh
- is also useful when you just copied new WaVs into the WaV
- directory and want WaVGeT to recognize them.
- WaVGeT also keeps track of the number of WaVs you have, the
- number of WaVs that were played, and the number of WaVs you
- tried to GET. You can let the world know about these counters
- in FILE-WAV COUNTERS. You can reset these counters in
- FILE-RESET COUNTERS.
-
- 2.4.5 How do I make a list of all my WaVs?
- Why should you use weird DOS commands for this? Simple click on
- the FILE - GENERATE LIST menu option. This will generate a list
- with all your WaVs in the WaV directory. It will list all
- files in the WaV directory and all of it's sub directories. It
- will also include the filesize, the name of the catalog where
- the file is located (if any) and the play message (if any).
- The file is called YOURNICK.TXT, and you can share it with
- your friends to find out who has what.
-
- 2.4.6 How do I use catalogs?
- Well, I made it as simple as possible. There is a default
- catalog called ALL FILES, that has, you guessed it, all files
- in it. You can add your own catalogs by clicking the ADD button
- in the SETUP window and typing in the catalog name. This will
- create a new catalog. You can also, DELETE, or RENAME existing
- catalogs. After you created a catalog, you can add WaVs to it by
- selecting one or more files in the WaV list, and then hitting the
- RIGHT MOUSE button. This will pop-up a list of catalogs, select
- one, and the selected files will be added to that catalog. You
- can select what catalog is active by picking one from the CATALOG
- MENU at the right size of the WaVGeT menu bar. The CATALOG MENU
- name also indicates the currently selected catalog.
-
- 2.4.7 What is the maximum number of WaV files in one directory?
- In the 16-bit version, you can have up to 5,400 WaV files in
- one directory. In the 32-bit version, that number goes up to
- 32,000! Anyway, you can have as many different directories as
- you want.
-
- See 2.4.8 What is this Trash! catalog?
- If you create a catalog named Trash! (see 2.4.6 on how to
- create a catlog) and you move a file to it, WaVGeT will DELETE
- that WaV, but keep the name in the Trash! catalog. WaVs names
- stored in the Trash! catalog will not show up in the GET list
- again. Great for people using AutoGet or for WaVs that have
- great names but are really terrible.
- NOTE: Make sure you name this catalog Trash with a capital T
- and a ! at the end.
-
- 2.5 WaVGeT options
-
- 2.5.1 How do I keep WaVGeT on top?
- That's an easy one. Check the SETUP - ALWAYS ON TOP checkbox.
- This will keep WaVGeT on top of mIRC at all times. Resize WaVGeT
- to make it fit between the channel windows.
-
- 2.5.2 How do I turn the title bar off?
- To save even more room on your cramped screen, clear the SETUP -
- DISPLAY TITLE BAR checkbox.
-
- 2.5.3 What is this 'auto directory update' thing?
- When you requests new files, WaVGeT automatically shows them in
- the file list. This also shows partly downloaded files however,
- so be careful with this option and random play. You might try to
- play sounds you don't have yet.
- Also, if you have a LOT of WaV files, and a relatively slow
- harddrive, this might slow things down a bit. Every time you
- request a file, WaVGeT will read the WaV directory, depending
- on your computer and the number of files you have, this might
- take a couple of seconds. If your harddrive goes nuts when you
- run WaVGeT, try and turn this option off.
-
- 2.5.4 How do I set the sound volume?
- RIGHT click on the speaker button, and the volume slider will
- be displayed. When you are done, RIGHT click the speaker
- button again to hide the slider. This slider controls the WAV
- volume of your soundcard. You can use the mute button to, you
- guessed it, mute the sound completely.
-
- 2.5.5 How do I convert WaveOut messages to WaVGeT messages?
- By request, I have added a function that can convert WaveOut
- WaV messages to WaVGeT messages. This function under the HELP
- menu will read the WaveOut.dbf file and convert any WaV messages
- it finds into WaVGeT messages. To use this function, FIRST
- copy the WaveOut.dbf file from the waveout directory to the
- WaVGeT directory. You can delete the WaveOut.dbf after you
- used this function. (Notice the difference in file size!?)
-
- 2.5.6 How do I play macros?
- Add 1:text:/write $mircdir $+ wavget.log $nick $nopath($parm2)
- to your remote commands. (mIRC 4.6)
- In Setup, select the *.txt filetype. That will show all text
- files in your WaV directory in the All Files catalog. Double
- click on one to play it to the channel. With the above line in
- remote commands, if somebody else plays one, it will show up
- in the GET list, just like a WaV. You can view a macro text
- file by double clicking on it. Probably the easiest way to use
- this is to make a Macro catalog and put all your text files in
- it. Select the catalog, double click on a macro, there it is!
-
- 2.5.7 How do I use color in mIRC 4.7 and up?
- You can use color in the Play Message Box and in the Play and Get
- messages. Simply highlight a word in the message, and hit
- ctrl-K for color. You'll see something like 2test (where
- is a little black line) Simply change the number to whatever
- color you want. You can also hit ctrl-u for underline, ctrl-r
- for reversed text, or ctrl-o to return the to normal text.
- You can also insert color or underline codes by placing the
- cursor somewhere in the message and hitting ctrl-k or ctrl-u,
- all the text after the cursor will be modified accordingly.
- If you put a code at the end of the message, the WaV info will
- also show up in color!
-
- 2.5.8 How do I make WaVGeT search subdirectories for WaVs?
- Simply check 'search subdirectories' in Setup. WaVGeT will
- search all subdirectories of the WaV directory SPECIFIED IN
- SETUP. In other words, if the directory specified in setup is
- c:\wavs, and there are two subdirectories, c:\wavs\fun, and
- c:\wavs\old, WaVGeT will search c:\wavs, c:\wavs\fun, and
- c:\wavs\old when a WaV is played on the channel.
- In addition, if you have any directories added to the Search
- Path list, WaVGeT will search those and their subdirectories
- also.
-
- 2.5.9 How do I use the search option?
- The search option searches (duh!) your play messages for a
- word you type in. Simple, if you are looking for a WaV that
- has something to do with dogs, you might want to search for
- 'dog'. After WaVGeT finds the word in a play message, it will
- display the location of the WaV, and you can choose to
- continue searching. After you stop the search, you can search
- for the same word again by pressing F3.
- WaVGeT will automatically select the last file it found after
- you stop searching so it's easy to play!
-
- 2.5.10 How do I use the Play Message Server...what is it anyway?
- The Play Message Server lets you send and receive play
- messages together with the WaVs you send and get. To put it
- simply, when somebody requests a WaV, you send them the file,
- and WaVGeT will send them a (ctcp) notice containing the play
- message for that WaV. If they also run WaVGeT, the play
- message will automagically be attached to the newly received
- WaV!
- You'll need two lines added to your remote control section to
- make this work. Add the following to remote commands:
- 1:smsg:/write $mircdir $+ wavget.log :smsg $parm2*
- (NO changes required if you are using mIRC 4.6 or above)
- Then, add the following to the remote events section:
- 1:on filesent:*.*:/write $mircdir $+ wavget.log :rmsg $nick $parm2
- (Also, NO changes required if you are using mIRC 4.6 or above)
- Then, check the Play Message Server box in Setup, and you're
- ready to serve play messages!
- Or, to make life easier, you can use the help-configure mirc
- to send wavs and get play messages menu option in WaVGeT.
-
- 2.5.11 How do I use additional FileTypes?
- Go to Setup-WavDir. Hit the ADD button to specify the
- new FileType. (Example: MP3) Then type in a player you want to
- use for that FileType. (Example: c:\winplay3\winplay3.exe)
- If you are not sure what to type here, just leave it blank and
- WaVGeT will use the default Windows player for the filetype.
- You can configure mIRC to handle MP3 files by clicking the
- mIRC button, it will add the correct remote command line.
- WaVGeT will now use the specified player when somebody else
- plays a file of that type, and those files you do not have
- will show up in the GET list so you can request them.
- This will work for any filetype, MP3, AU, MOV, AVI, you name
- it!
- NOTE: Since the 'standard' of playing MP3 files on mIRC is not
- set yet, you can select to play the MP3 files using the SOUND
- ctcp command or using the MP3 ctcp command. You can select
- this option by checking the 'Play FileTypes using /ctcp SOUND'
- checkbox. If you have any suggestions on how WaVGeT should
- handle these new filetypes, please email me.
-
- 2.5.12 How do I let WaVGeT handle my DCC send requests?
- WaVGeT has a great DCC send request handler built in. I know
- there are many mIRC scripts that do the same, but this one is
- very simple to configure and use.
- First make sure you have mIRC configured correctly, use the
- Help-Configure mIRC-To send wavs to others menu option and
- click YES when asked it you WaVGeT to handle your sends. After
- that, go to WaVGeT's Setup-DCC section. You can adjust the
- maximum total of sends and the maximum per nick, and define
- color messages that are sent to the requester.
-
- 2.5.13 How do I use the DCC send que?
- Make sure you have mIRC configured correctly (See 2.5.12) and
- go to WaVGeT's Setup-DCC section. Check the Que requests box
- to automatically add requests that can not be handled because
- you are too busy to the que. You can also set a time limit for
- how long request stay in the que before they are removed. You
- can define color messages that are sent to the user when they
- are added or removed from the que.
- You can manually remove somebody from the que by selecting the
- request and pressing the DEL key. You can clear the whole list
- by pressing the INS key.
-
- 2.5.14 How do I use $filename, $nick etc. in WaVGeT messages?
- You can use the following variables in Play, Get, and DCC
- messages:
- $filename The name of the file the message is about.
- $nick The nick of the person rewuesting the file.
- $dccmax The maximum number of DCC sessions set in setup.
- $nickmax The maximum number of DCC sessions per nick.
- $wavget The WaVGeT version. (For example: 1.6)
- Besides that, WaVGeT does also support the normal mIRC
- variables like $chan or $active. You can even put a little
- script in a message, for example:
- plays $filename for $nick(#,$rand(1,$nick(#,0)))
- would select a random nickname from the current channel and
- insert it into the play message like 'plays 007.wav for Dutch2'.
- Note: Use $me in a play message to display your own nick.
-
- 2.5.15 How do I use the @find function?
- First add the following line to mIRC's remote section:
- on 1:text:@find*:*:/write $mircdir $+ wavget.log :find $nick $parm2 $parm3
- Now people can type @find *file* # on the channel to see if
- you have a file they are looking for. For example, @find cel*
- will search your wav directories for any file starting with
- CEL. WaVGeT will respond to them with the first 5 files that
- match the string. They can also type @find cel* 10 to get file
- 15 to 20 that match CEL.
- You can change the @find in the mIRC remote line to @YourNick
- so people can type @YourNick cel* 10 too, (Where YourNick is
- your nick ofcource)
- You can turn this feature on and off in WaVGeT's setup-options
- section.
-
- 2.6 Help!
- Help is only an email away, or simply ask somebody else using WaVGeT.
- Visited the #WaVGeT channel yet?
-
- 2.6.1 I can't play sounds...what's wrong?
- If you can't play sounds locally (double click on a file) there
- might be a problem with your computer's sound setup.
- If you can't play sounds to a channel (select a file and press
- the SEND SOUND button) make sure you typed /ddeserver on in MIRC.
-
- 2.6.2 I can't get sounds...what's wrong?
- Use the FILE - CONFIGURE mIRC menu option. See 1.3.2 How do I use
- the 'auto configure mIRC' option?
-
- 2.6.3 The SEND INFO menu option
- If I am on a channel (I am Dutch2 on DALnet) you can select the
- HELP - SEND INFO menu to send some information about your setup
- to me. This will help me to figure out the problem.
-
- 2.6.4 I get some really weird error message...now what?
- Well, WaVGeT is software, and, I don't want to say it,
- software might have bugs. Please email me at support@wavget.com
- if you have a REPEATABLE problem. Try and explain as much as
- possible about the problem you are having.
- Meanwhile, try one thing...
- Rename your wavget.ini file wavget.old This will re-initialize
- WaVGeT the next time you start it.
-
- 2.6.5 My harddrive goes nuts when I use WaVGeT...what's going on?
- If you have a LOT of WaV files, and a relatively slow harddrive,
- the AUTO UPDATE option might slow things down a bit. Every time you
- request a file, WaVGeT will read the WaV directory, depending
- on your computer and the number of files you have, this might
- take a couple of seconds. If your harddrive goes nuts when you
- run WaVGeT, try and turn AUTO UPDATE off.
-
- 2.6.6 mIRC 'freezes up' for a second every now and then when I use WaVGeT
- Whenever somebody plays a WaV on a channel, mIRC writes the NICK
- and the WAVNAME to the WAVGET.LOG file. This causes mIRC to stop
- looking at the keyboard because it's busy writing to the disk.
- This seems to be a problem in Windows 95, because of the
- increased overhead. To make sure this is the problem you are
- experiencing, exit WaVGeT, mIRC will still write to the log
- file. If the problem exists without WaVGeT running, try
- optimizing your disk cache settings. (write caching on)

- 2.6.7 I get '* /write: Unable to access...' errors, now what?
- This seems to be a problem in Windows95. There are two things
- you can try: 1st, in the WaVGeT FILE-INPUT RATE menu, change
- the interval to 10 or 15, 2nd, try and remove the :> from the
- end of the REMOTE COMMAND line (if it's there). I am
- investigating this problem, if you find a clear solution,
- please let me know.
-
- 2.6.8 I used Configure mIRC in WaVGeT32, but GET still doesn't work.
- mIRC doesn't like spaces in directory names used in remote commands.
- For example, if you have mIRC installed in c:\program files\mirc, you
- would think the commands tring would have to be:
- 1:sound:/write c:\program files\mirc\wavget.log $nick $parm2
- However, mIRC (even mIRC32) doesn't like long directory names with
- spaces in them, so you should use the short DOS name:
- 1:sound:/write c:\progra~1\mirc\wavget.log $nick $parm2
-
- 2.6.9 I get an 'unresolved dynalink' error when I start WaVGeT.
- I can't say that I really understand this one, but some people have
- reported succes by copying the required dll files (vb40016.dll and
- oc25.dll) to BOTH the \windows AND the \windows\system directory.
-
- 2.6.10 I get a 'typelib out of date' error when I start WaVGeT.
- There is a updated version of this file available on the WaVGeT web
- page.
-
- 2.6.11 What files do I need to run WaVGeT?
- If you are using Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups, you need:
- wavget16.exe.......The wavget program
- wavget.txt.........The wavget help file
- vb40016.dll........The wavget library in \windows\system (See 2.6.9)
- oc25.dll...........The wavget library in \windows\system (See 2.6.9)
- If you are using Windows95 or WindowsNT, you need:
- wavget32.exe.......The wavget program
- wavget.txt.........The wavget help file
- vb40032.dll........The wavget library in \windows\system
- olepro32.dll.......The wavget library in \windows\system

- 2.7 I like WaVGeT, but...
- WaVGeT is written for you, so I would like to hear what you want!
-
- 2.7.1 I would like WaVGeT to do...
- I'm always curious what people would like to see next, so please
- let me know what you would like to see added. If you don't tell
- me, it will never happen. Please email me at support@wavget.com.
-
- 2.7.2 I would like WaVGeT NOT to do...
- Same here, is WaVGeT getting on your nerves with this one thing
- it does, but you like the rest? Tell me about it, and I see what
- I can do. Please email me at support@wavget.com.
